Organization Summary: Cookie Cart provides teens 15 to 18 years old with lasting and meaningful
work, life, and leadership skills through experience and training in an urban nonprofit bakery.
Combining hands-on work experience, classroom work readiness training, formal customer service
education, skills certification and financial literacy classes, Cookie Cart helps teens develop the
foundational tools they need to be successful in education and career. The organization will serve
over 300 teens in East St. Paul and North Minneapolis.

Hiring Range: $16.00 – $19.00/hour, DOQ

Job Description:
In this hands-on job-training program, we teach essential employment skills to every teen Cookie Cart employee. We teach
in both the traditional classroom environment and on-the-job in support of managers in the bakery. Using Cookie Cart’s
curriculum, this position will lead professional development programming on foundational and advanced work readiness,
customer service, leadership and critical thinking skills. Other duties that all staff commit to are as follows: support cookie
sales, support volunteers, and nurture fund development relationships.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Act as a role model and advocate for Youth Employees
• Facilitate lessons in Foundations focusing on helping new Cookie Cart Youth Employees understand and develop the
skills they need to be successful on the job including goal setting, food handler basics and volunteer engagement
• Facilitate lessons in Leadership focusing on critical thinking, becoming a peer leader, resolving conflicts with others
and between others, and advanced communication, including, sales, marketing, and customer service
• Facilitate lessons in Bright Futures preparing young people to transition out of their positions at Cookie Cart and into a
next job with a professional portfolio highlighting their accomplishments
• Identify specific support needs which will increase each Youth Employee’s overall success in finding and maintaining
employment as they develop within Cookie Cart, transition to leadership roles and have successful bright futures
• Prepare and submit daily, monthly, and quarterly paperwork into our database to analyze and communicate
program success and areas for improvement according to established timeframes and guidelines
• Work within a team of Youth Work Professionals
Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
• Experience teaching/training inner-city teens and knowledge of best practices in youth development, age
appropriate classroom and behavior management skills
• Demonstrate servant leadership while role modeling professional behavior in the classroom, in the bakery and in our
• Strong judgment and discretion skills; able to effectively communicate in both verbal and written format both one on
one and in group settings
• Availability to work afterschool programming hours where evenings and some weekends are required, and adapt
availability to work summer daytime hours based on seasonal program needs
• Must maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a high degree of integrity
• Able to pass a background check
