POSITION: Youth Activity Coordinator
PROGRAM: Ginew/Golden Eagle Program
SALARY: Up to $37,000/annually depending on qualifications, 40 hours per week
DEADLINE: Open Until Filled
The goal of the Youth Activity Coordinator is to provide culturally-supportive services to assist youth who are involved in or at risk of being involved in the juvenile justice system, engage with educational systems, and healthy community supports. The primary responsibility of the Youth Activity Coordinator is to work as part of a team of individuals in providing direct services to children and youth in an after school setting.
- Function as part of the Ginew/Golden Eagle Team, attending planning meetings, and assisting in programming and events.
- Work as a member of a team to research and plan activities to carry out the Ginew/Golden Eagle Program’s goals.
- Organize, prepare for, and gather supplies for weekly youth groups for the program.
- Coordinate and maintain relationships with partnering organizations and internal Center programs.
- Meet reposting requirements for the project.
- Maintain cleanliness and efficiency of program area.
- Maintain confidentiality when working with children and staff.
- Participate in MAIC staff meetings and training events.
Direct Service with Youth
- Coordinate cultural, academic, recreational and health related activities with youth.
- Supervise youth during activities inside and outside of the Center.
- Provide a positive experience for youth within the program and during sponsored field trips.
- Ensure program participation of youth through effective recruitment and retention strategies.
- Ability to transport youth to and from activities in the Ginew/Golden Eagle vehicles.
- Assist implementation of the adapted curriculum with youth.
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days of work are typically Monday through Friday, with after school programming from 5:00pm through 8:00pm or 9pm (M-Th). Days/hours may vary, with some holidays/weekends.
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or Social Services related field is preferred
- Undergraduate degree and/or equivalent work experience in area of child development or social services preferred; two years’ experience working directly with youth required
- Knowledge of the Minneapolis American Indian community and the needs of American Indian children
- Ability and experience in conveying cultural concepts and teachings to children
- Excellent communication skills
- Should be a self-starter; demonstrate an ability to initiate and complete tasks
- Must enjoy working on a staff team
- Must be flexible, well organized and demonstrate good time management
- Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record and be insurable at time of hire
- Able to pass a criminal background check
