POSITION SUMMARY:
Brooklyn Park Recreation and Parks Department is looking for a highly motivated and team-oriented individual who has a desire to make a difference in the Brooklyn Park community. This key leadership position will work within the recreation division implementing year-round youth and preschool programs. The work portfolio includes operation of 4 full-season summer day camp locations, a large studio dance program, various out of school enrichment programs, and the administration of Brooklyn Park Nature Preschool. This position will assess program needs, determine program outcomes, and deliver programs and services in accordance with industry best practice, licensing & accreditation standards, and City Council directives. The Recreation Supervisor will supervise a staff team that includes 5 regular full time and part time staff. This position is also responsible for the recruiting, hiring, training, and development of up to 75 seasonal employees needed for the implementation of high-quality programs. The Recreation Supervisor will work independently under the general supervision of the Recreation Services Manager to operate innovative programs focused on quality, collaboration, and service to
our community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Plan, supervise, and evaluate programs within the work portfolio including summer camp, dance, and Brooklyn Park Nature Preschool
• Recruit, hire, train and supervise seasonal staff and work with contract vendors to provide recreation programs
• Prepare, monitor, and provide year end reporting on program area budgets totaling $500,000 in expenditures annually
• Provide support to on-site program staff including behavior management, direct service, and relationship building with participants and their families
• Work with preschool teaching staff to maintain MN Department of Human Services licensing requirements for Brooklyn Park Nature Preschool
• Ensure programs and services are equitable to all members of the community
• Maintain accurate records for year-end reporting including participation levels, contact hours, accident/incidents, and parent evaluations of programs and services
• Work with communications team to develop marketing materials necessary for program promotion
• Maintain accreditation portfolio for Brooklyn Park Nature Preschool
• Facilitate meetings for various work groups
• Participate in cross-department work groups to advance City-wide initiatives and the BP 2025 goals
• Complete internal and external facility use requests and manage permits
• Assist with large scale department wide events
• Other duties as assigned or apparent

MINIMUM AND DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
Bachelor’s degree Recreation and Parks Administration, Therapeutic Recreation, Education, Sports Management, Outdoor Education, or closely related field

Experience
Five (5) years of highly-related experience to the duties of the position, which includes:
• Developing and implementing recreation programs for youth
• Progressively responsible experience supervising employees, including recruiting, hiring, training and conducting performance evaluations
• Working with field and facility scheduling and administration
• Budget preparation and management of program budgets and funds
• Working with participants from racially, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse backgrounds

Equivalency
An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Experience developing and implementing multiple recreation programs for young people ages 3-15, especially summer camp, dance, afterschool programs, and preschool programs
• Experience developing and implementing a comprehensive training program for seasonal staff
• Experience managing, providing work direction, and evaluation for regular FT and seasonal staff
• Experience preparing written materials to promote and market programs and services in print and on social media
• Experience using program quality assessments like the Youth Program Quality Assessment, Youth Outcome Battery, or Teaching Strategies Gold

• Experience operating a recreational dance program, including year-end recitals
• TOPS facilitation training

• Ability to provide a level of customer service that meets/exceeds customer expectation and satisfaction
• Other education/experience/training/skills desirable for the position
• Previous experience working with people from various cultural, socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds
• Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali, Laotian or Vietnamese language(s)

Selection/Hiring Process
The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and/or an oral examination (100%).
