We will cover current drugs, warning signs, how drugs/alcohol affect brain development as well as provide a window into the mind of a teenage addict. This training will be interactive and provide insight from young people in recovery as well as prevention professionals. We will look at data that applies to the communities you serve as learn about the rise in heroin use and the direct connection with prescription opiates. You will leave with a better understanding of substance abuse, recovery and have tools to apply to your work with youth.

Adam Pederson has been on staff with Mn Adult & Teen Challenge for over 4 years. For the last 3 years he has worked as the Director for Know the Truth, a substance abuse prevention program. Know the Truth works with schools and community organizations educating students, parents, and professionals on the risks of substance abuse. Last year alone Adam’s team presented to more than 50,000 Mn youth. Adam has an associate’s degree in applied science and is certified as a prevention specialist. He resides in Columbia Heights with his wife Renee and their 8 month old son Beckett.
