FWPS AmeriCorps members make a difference in the lives of youth by serving in AVID elective classrooms and Core subject classrooms (Math, Science, English, & History). AVID is the primary focus of our program. In the AVID elective members facilitate small Socratic study groups called tutorials. Scholars are guided by the AmeriCorps member through the tutorial process as they utilize inquiry to support the scholar's academic success. Members also host a weekly after-school homework club, where scholars can get the extra help they need. Each member serves in a team dynamic as they are assigned to one of our 6 middle schools or 4 high schools. Members receive ongoing training and professional development to reinforce best practices in the field of education in an inclusive environment designed to foster the development of their leadership skills.
